Love is…

Love is…

Your new pastor calling the day before surgery, even though he doesn’t really know you well yet.

Love is…

Your friend calling you and telling you not to make dinner tomorrow because she is having someone bring you and your mom a cooked meal.

Love is…

Your friends pounding on your door (scaring the crap out of you….Thanks guys) and singing Christmas carols, while your mom sits and sobs because she is so overwhelmed by the love and kindness.

This is what love is

Thankful…

In a year where everything seems to have changed, people are still getting sick, jobs and schools have changed things up a bit. There are still things to be thankful for. I hope all reading this are heathy and as are those closest to you all.

I’m thankful for….

I’ve been lucky in that my job hasn’t been affected. I am an essential worker. So for me it’s been business as usual.

I am thankful that my family is safe and healthy.

What I am most thankful for? My church family. Never in my life have we had such love showered on us. When my dad passed away late last month these amazing people stepped in and took care of everything for his open house.

My incredible friends who love unconditionally. I can’t imagine life without my girl squad.

What are you thankful for?

Churches ARE Essential

our-church-2

Today the President deemed churches as essential business. Funny….I was told church wasn’t essential and should stay closed. I guess the President disagrees, I agree with the President.  2 more weeks and we can get back to services. I can’t wait to see my church family again!

2020….

dreamstime_2020

We’re only 3 and a half months in and what an epic year it’s been, so far. It can only get better right? Let’s hope.

2020, the year everything stopped, literally…EVERYTHING.

The year schools closed. Graduations cancelled. Weddings postponed, some cancelled, some went on with a slight change of plans.

People started hoarding toilet paper. For reasons I’m still not clear on. FYI, panic hoarding has moved to pasta, dried beans and rice. Seriously, go try to buy a bag dried limas. You can’t.

What is now norm….

Waiting in lines to get into the grocery store, or Walmart, what ever is your preference. Wearing masks everywhere you go, including the bank. Whoever thought you would walk into a bank wearing a mask and no one calls the FBI. Strange times we live in.

Curbside pick up for food you would normally eat INSIDE your favorite restaurants. We did this last night, when you have to have Mexican food you will do anything to get it, am I right? Yes, I think I am.

Grocery workers now being considered “essential workers” and now being thanked for doing our jobs rather than being yelled at for doing our jobs (You’re welcome)

I mean seriously, if it weren’t for us grocery workers you wouldn’t have toilet paper.

2020…

The year hospital ships are docked in 2 major shipping ports in the US to help take stress off of the hospitals and the amazing healthcare workers who put their lives on the line daily to care for the sick and dying. Thank you, you incredible heroes for your selfless dedication to the care of others.

The year central park was turned into a field hospital to help in the care of those sick in NYC.

The year churches were closed. We now stream our services and can go to church in our pjs.

So many things, I could go on forever.

Welcome to the covidverse.

Healing

Sooooo much has changed since my post of October 1st.

Our church is healing. We are in the process of organizing a pastor search committee. Most of the deacons that stepped down have been brought back, after much prayer. We’re in the process of repairing our worship ministry. We have had some wonderful pulpit fills. God is definitely working in our church. Our family is restored, or getting there. A few families that were run off have started to trickle back in. We have youth and children in our church again, which is wonderful.  It’s astounding the damage one person can do to a church and equally as astounding is the healing hand of God.

Vacation #AtoZChallenge

Sadly I didn’t go to the beach for my vacation. It was more of a working vacation. Have I mentioned that we had a small fire? It wasn’t big but did damage to the ceiling in my parents room. Anyway, the major repairs were finished and our contractor was starting the painting when he had a family emergency. So we decided to take the burden off of him (he is a friend from church) and do the painting ourselves. Monday our neighbors and good friends painted the room and I helped put things back together.

Tuesday was the day to paint my room. It had been an ugly gold/brown color.

The doors are now a silver gray

The big wall is navy blue
When we started the blue wall i thought it would end up brighter than I’d wanted but once it dried it was dark blue like I wanted.
The rest of the walls are a pale gray.
The rest of the week was pretty mundane, Until Saturday.
8 friends and I trecked down to Phoenix for a concert. Bethel Music.
First we did some shopping. Yes I ended up in Barnes and Noble…..I can’t help it lol
I’d never been to Tempe Marketplace. It was fun.
They made fun of me because I’d never been to Chick-Fil-A
I didn’t see what the hype is all about but that’s just me.
So we had to commemorate the moment.
I’m still not sure how I felt about this concert. I didn’t really enjoy it. It was just too much…….noise.
Chris Tomlin is about as wild as I get. This was over the top. Plus, something just felt off.  Sensory overload I guess.
Sunday we went to College View Baptist Church for our service, My friend’s extended family goes there and her brother in law is that pastor. It was a great service.
The girl squad
All in all it was a fun weekend with the girls 🙂

Palm Sunday

palm-Sunday-2019-quotes (1)

As a kid I was raised Lutheran. One of the things I miss most about no longer going to a Lutheran church is the traditions and celebrations of the church holidays. I remember  Palm Sunday when I was a kid all of us kids got to go to “big church” back then kids went to their own service, separate from the main service, Anyway, I remember we carried in palm branches and lay them down in front of the alter, leading the Pastor into the church. Today, in the church I go to now, I doubt it will be mentioned. But then again, having been raised Lutheran, I wish we did more to celebrate the holy days of Passion Week….Which starts today btw.

This video is adorable.

So, what ever you do, or don’t, celebrate…..Have a wonderful Sunday

Being The New Girl

Screenshot_2015-01-02_15.48.45-300x193

Let’s face it….We’ve all been the new kid on the block. Whether it has been a new neighborhood, a new school, or even a new church bible study class. I’ve been there many times in my life. Recently, 2 years ago, I was the new kid, or adult kid, in a new church, in a new class. Now….I haven’t had much luck in churches, making friends and such. I am very shy and introverted. Any attention put on me is cause for panic. So I’ve had a rough time making friends and getting to know people (My whole life really). Thankfully for me this church makes it easy to make friends, which I have and I love them all to pieces.

Anyway,

Yesterday a new girl walked into our church. She wasn’t sure where to go or what class she should be in. Well that is really a personal choice, there are several awesome classes, the class I’m in is perfectly awesome. So I asked the confused girl if she needed help and she said she wasn’t sure where she was going. So I asked her age, close to mine, so I said “follow me” and brought her to my class and introduced her to my friends.

So many times I have needed that. Someone to step up and say “Hey you’re new come be my friend” So many times it hasn’t happened, to me or others like me. We get forgotten, we’re the nameless people in the room. (FYI, I don’t feel this way at my current church) so it really felt good to step out of my comfort zone and lend a hand 🙂
