It’s an adventure…

Life these days, Don’t you think? wpid-img_20150924_124317

but seriously, I am going on an adventure. I’m going to Walmart! Exciting right? I haven’t been there in over a month. I wonder if it’s changed….

I wouldn’t be going except I have a computer to pick up. So I decided to do my grocery shopping since I’m there. I was talking to my niece on Snapchat the other day. On a selfie she took she captioned “all dressed up and nowhere to go” Isn’t that the truth. I told her I have all these cute clothes and nowhere to wear them. How sad life has gotten. So when I got dressed this morning, to go on my adventure to Walmart, I thought “oh boy! I get to wear cute clothes to the store!” What did I put on? Leggings and an oversized  t-shirt :/

Such is life in the Covidverse

2020….

dreamstime_2020

We’re only 3 and a half months in and what an epic year it’s been, so far. It can only get better right? Let’s hope.

2020, the year everything stopped, literally…EVERYTHING.

The year schools closed. Graduations cancelled. Weddings postponed, some cancelled, some went on with a slight change of plans.

People started hoarding toilet paper. For reasons I’m still not clear on. FYI, panic hoarding has moved to pasta, dried beans and rice. Seriously, go try to buy a bag dried limas. You can’t.

What is now norm….

Waiting in lines to get into the grocery store, or Walmart, what ever is your preference. Wearing masks everywhere you go, including the bank. Whoever thought you would walk into a bank wearing a mask and no one calls the FBI. Strange times we live in.

Curbside pick up for food you would normally eat INSIDE your favorite restaurants. We did this last night, when you have to have Mexican food you will do anything to get it, am I right? Yes, I think I am.

Grocery workers now being considered “essential workers” and now being thanked for doing our jobs rather than being yelled at for doing our jobs (You’re welcome)

I mean seriously, if it weren’t for us grocery workers you wouldn’t have toilet paper.

2020…

The year hospital ships are docked in 2 major shipping ports in the US to help take stress off of the hospitals and the amazing healthcare workers who put their lives on the line daily to care for the sick and dying. Thank you, you incredible heroes for your selfless dedication to the care of others.

The year central park was turned into a field hospital to help in the care of those sick in NYC.

The year churches were closed. We now stream our services and can go to church in our pjs.

So many things, I could go on forever.

Welcome to the covidverse.

Bring the Rain

Bring the rain – MercyMe

I can count a million times
People asking me how I
Can praise You with all that I’ve gone through
The question just amazes me
Can circumstances possibly
Change who I forever am in You
Maybe since my life was changed
Long before these rainy days
It’s never really ever crossed my mind
To turn my back on you, oh Lord
My only shelter from the storm
But instead I draw closer through these times
So I pray
Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there’ll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that’s what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain
I am Yours regardless of
The dark clouds that may loom above
Because You are much greater than my pain
You who made a way for me
By suffering Your destiny
So tell me what’s a little rain
So I pray
Holy, holy, holy
Is the Lord God Almighty

The New Normal

_111422392_gettyimages-1213268183

The streets have less cars on them. There’s no one at the restaurants, Except for those picking up to go orders. Drive thrus are busier than normal. There are now lines to get into grocery stores and only so many people allowed inside at a time. Maybe this will stop the panic hoarding. Every morning I watch the people rush into our store and the first place they go is the toilet paper aisle. Do they really need that toilet paper? Probably not since we see the same people every morning.

We’re ordered to stay home, except for essential business.  It’s rare to see someone without a mask on their face. We can’t hug our friends. You never know who may be carrying this virus.

and…..

We can’t gather as a church family to celebrate Resurrection day.

What a strange world we live in.

Life As We Know It…

Covid19b

A day in the life of a grocery employee….

I never thought I would live in a time where the words “I’m going to the store to see what groceries I can find” would come out of my mouth,  Yet here were are. People wait at the doors before they open, Some even pound on them to be let in before everyone else.  Employees have to call to be let into the store, It’s like a covert operation. Though it is starting to get a little better, people still flock to the stores and buy much more than necessary (what will they do with all the toilet paper when this is over?) Until yesterday I wouldn’t let my 72 year old mother out of the house. I asked my facebook people if I knew anyone locally making masks. A friend brought me 2 she had made. I feel a little better about letting mom go to the store if she needs to, but not much. Unfortunately if we employees want anything, we have to be part of the heard at the doors before 6am or buy before our shift, if we are lucky enough to have an opening shift. Even then you still may not get what you need or want. We have dedicated elderly hours. Can we please have dedicated “Employee only” hours?

Our department managers are doing the best they can to get product back on the shelves. They order and order but the warehouses can only do so much as well. It’s a domino effect. Stripe the stores clean and you stripe the warehouses clean because they have more than one empty store to refill. When supply is greater than demand it’s no problem but the tables have turned. Will things get back to normal? Sure but it will take a while.

My town/county has been hit but not as hard as some areas of the state. The worst hit in my county has been the Navajo Nation. There have been a few local cases but not many. What is scary is that, soon, the summer residents will be coming up from the hardest hit areas of the state. Putting more stress on our already depleted resources (Yes I know it’s like that everywhere).   I don’t know what they think they will find. Everything is closed. We can’t gather. Heck, today is Palm Sunday and we can’t even go to church, Thank goodness for technology and we can listen to our pastors online.

On the brighter side of things, people seem to be a little nicer, a little more patient. I did, in the beginning, hear one customer complaining to management about the lack of toilet paper (had he been watching the news?) From a personal perspective, I get yelled at (about things completely out of my control) a lot less than normal. I get thanked for doing my job (which is completely unheard of in my department)

Anyway, I could go on rambling for hours.

We’ll get through this, just hang in there…

PS…Please stop buying all the paper products…

Vacation #AtoZChallenge

Sadly I didn’t go to the beach for my vacation. It was more of a working vacation. Have I mentioned that we had a small fire? It wasn’t big but did damage to the ceiling in my parents room. Anyway, the major repairs were finished and our contractor was starting the painting when he had a family emergency. So we decided to take the burden off of him (he is a friend from church) and do the painting ourselves. Monday our neighbors and good friends painted the room and I helped put things back together.

Tuesday was the day to paint my room. It had been an ugly gold/brown color.

The doors are now a silver gray

The big wall is navy blue
When we started the blue wall i thought it would end up brighter than I’d wanted but once it dried it was dark blue like I wanted.
The rest of the walls are a pale gray.
The rest of the week was pretty mundane, Until Saturday.
8 friends and I trecked down to Phoenix for a concert. Bethel Music.
First we did some shopping. Yes I ended up in Barnes and Noble…..I can’t help it lol
I’d never been to Tempe Marketplace. It was fun.
They made fun of me because I’d never been to Chick-Fil-A
I didn’t see what the hype is all about but that’s just me.
So we had to commemorate the moment.
I’m still not sure how I felt about this concert. I didn’t really enjoy it. It was just too much…….noise.
Chris Tomlin is about as wild as I get. This was over the top. Plus, something just felt off.  Sensory overload I guess.
Sunday we went to College View Baptist Church for our service, My friend’s extended family goes there and her brother in law is that pastor. It was a great service.
The girl squad
All in all it was a fun weekend with the girls 🙂

Palm Sunday

palm-Sunday-2019-quotes (1)

As a kid I was raised Lutheran. One of the things I miss most about no longer going to a Lutheran church is the traditions and celebrations of the church holidays. I remember  Palm Sunday when I was a kid all of us kids got to go to “big church” back then kids went to their own service, separate from the main service, Anyway, I remember we carried in palm branches and lay them down in front of the alter, leading the Pastor into the church. Today, in the church I go to now, I doubt it will be mentioned. But then again, having been raised Lutheran, I wish we did more to celebrate the holy days of Passion Week….Which starts today btw.

This video is adorable.

So, what ever you do, or don’t, celebrate…..Have a wonderful Sunday

Demo Day #AtoZChallenge

#AtoZChallenge

I don’t think I ave a specific “D” topic for today other than….. IT’S DEMO TIME!

The repair to our house is finally going to start today. February 22nd wasn’t a good day. As predicted we had gotten over 2ft of snow. The weather people on the news had been talking about a doomsday snow storm that would potentially paralyze our area, Normally all of their stormageddon predictions never amount to much of anything. Well this time thay happened to be right. Snowed in we were.  I called off work because of the snow for the first time in 17 1/2 years.  I woke up that morning and the furnace wasn’t working. I wasn’t about to leave my parents home with no heat, They are 90 and 71 AND my dad has Parkinsons. Not happening. Thankfully if was a simple fix and our neighbor was able to fix it.

Couldn’t even see our street, No way I was shoveling that much snow. Work would just have to survive without me. Most everything in town, I found out later, was closed and no one was moving about town anyway.

Later in the morning we were watching TV and we lost power to half of our house. We thought it was probably because of the storm and all of the heavy snow.  Then we started smelling something weird, searched around blah blah blah long story short we called the fire department to check our house. Turns out….we had a smolder going on in the ceiling. No one has any idea how it happened, a wire to….something….shorted out and set the insulation on fire.

All thanks goes to God for having his protective arms around us that day. And to Timber Mesa fire for getting here so quickly and taking care of us.  We have the BEST fire department. Not just because of this but for other things they have been called to our house for, all having to do with my dad.
Later in the day I talked to one of my besties, who’s husband happens to be our deacon, They were our clearing driveways and they came over with some of the youth boys to dig us out and cleared our driveway for us.
So today is demo day. Thankfully we know a guy , ha ha ha that’s a joke in our house “I know a guy”, a good friend at our church is a contractor so he will be here today with the electrician to start the repair!
THANK YOU JESUS!

Cats #AtoZChallenge

#AtoZChallenge

Cats….We have 3 of the little furry darlings (and I use the word darlings very loosely)
This is Sophie, She is the spoiled princess of the gang. She is a muted calico rag doll and we think part munchkin because she hasn’t hardly got any legs. She’s a tiny little thing with a BIG attitude. You can hear her meow down the street (I’m exaggerating but not by much) Sophie is a garbage gut and will eat all the people food and drink all the milk.
This is Luke (with Sophie)  He is the most chill cat ever. He likes to play with his brother Chester (Sophie doesn’t play, She IS a princess after all) Luke also likes the eat plastic. We think Luke is part goat (kidding….kinda) because he will eat anything, plastic bags are his favorite but he will also eat throw blankets, corners off of pillows and the occasional shirt.
and this little jerk is Chester. Chester has many issues. He is the clingiest of the gang. He has separation anxiety. Seafood makes him throw up, as does milk. He is not a normal cat. He doesn’t meow, he squeaks. Lately he likes to get up on top of the fridge and look down on us, judging us as only a cat can.  He likes to play with Luke. He TRIES to play with Sophie but all she does is growl and hiss at him (Princess remember)
So that’s it, the 3 little furry darlings
